State of the Union

I know the State of the Union address is supposed to be a dignified affair and all, but why can’t we do it like the British parliament? Why no heckling? The only thing the Democrats appear to be allowed to do is shake their heads, stay seated, and applaude at inappropriate times.

The President of the United States, no matter if he or she is Republican or Democrat, should not be allowed to use the State of the Union to campaign. It’s free, televised, national, unchallenged campaign time. And don’t even get me started on using Air Force One and secret service time when going to $1,000 a plate fundraisers.

The president HAS to campaign if he wants office again, and he’s required (by common sense) to have Secret Service with him at all times while he’s president and beyond… what do you expect him to do?

Anonymous,

Of course he has to, and I don’t pretend to know a solution, but it just feels wrong. At least the President could do something useful on some of these trips instead of simply fundraising.

My comments on the SOTU still stand though.
