I agree, the whole walled-off networking thing is ultimately unproductive. One leader site will have to emerge, or a small number of dominant sites, or the whole lot of them will flounder around and we'll all get tired of it. That's why I'm putting my money on Orkut. I hope that the "affiliated with Google" thing means something, because frankly, it'd be pretty cool to be able to watch the associations and friends lists grow, and I'd also love to get a sort of UKAZU roll-call going.
