The Debate (Part 1)

Kerry kicked Bush’s ass. Up and down. Left and right. He’s a better speaker, he has a better command of the issues, he has a plan, he’s taller, he’s more presidential looking and sounding, he doesn’t stumble or stutter, he doesn’t interrupt, he thinks on his feet, he doesn’t mispronounce words, he’s more respectful of his opponent…

I could go on and on, but I won’t just now. I know I’m a very strong Kerry supporter (and very, very anti-Bush), but I honestly think Kerry did much better. Bush had a few really strong points (the story about meeting with the wife of a dead soldier sounded really good to half the country, I think), but overall Kerry was stronger.

And thank goodness they basically threw out all the stupid debate rules. Made it more of an actual debate.

And now onto round 2.

“The only thing consistent… about my opponent’s… platform… is it’s inconsistent. <dopey grin>”

Well, without his bright, young aides and well-selected cabinent members around, our president vociferously proclaims his complete ignorance of the situation we, as a nation, are in.

…and this was supposed to be his topic!

Bush’s refrain all night seemed to be Kerry’s “flip-flopping.” That is a childish-sounding term to begin with. But beyond that, I don’t understand why one should be criticized for changing one’s mind after receiving new information. Isn’t that how we grow and develop as self-aware, intelligent beings?! This whole stick-to-your-guns, “I know where I stand” dumb-fuckery probably has a lot to do with why the rest of the world hates our guts.

And that reminds me, Kerry’s point that if he is elected other world leaders might be willing to talk to us again simply cannot be overstated.
