Books I've Read: The Dervish House
Pre-ordered this like six months ahead of time for some reason -- probably an article on io9. When it shipped, I couldn't remember why I got it. Near-future sci-fi is always difficult to do, but this book manages it, largely by dropping the sci-fi. There's several really, really good ideas in the book that go completely unexplored, at the expense of deep character development. The biggest character is the city of Istanbul itself, which I was totally unfamiliar with going in except for what I learned from TMBG.
Another unsatisfying, sudden ending left the whole thing as a mixed bag.
